Book Club: The Soul-Searcher's Handbook
By Emma Mildon
Why I first picked up the book: I'm an avid reader of MindBodyGreen and recognized Emma Mildon's name from her bylines there. I didn't really understand what I was ordering until it arrived, but it's basically an encyclopedia of all things spiritual in 2017. My favorite part is that it rates everything on a "woo-woo scale," which made me laugh and realize that I am a walking parody of myself many a time throughout flipping through it.
This book is good for: This book serves as an explainer for everything in the Land Of Spirituality™ and is great for anyone who's curious. If you've been in the game a while, though, I might browse through this or rent the book, but you might not ~need~ it quite as much. It's written in a way that's clear to understand for newbies. bought this book when it first came out and at the time it was helpful, but would have been much more helpful had I bought it even earlier in my life.
A few select quotes:
"Wherever you are on your spiritual journey right now, it's where you need to be — even if it doesn't feel that way just yet."
“Spirituality is not a religion or a trend — it is a lifestyle. It is a lifestyle of awareness that combines the understanding of faith, body, mind, and soul, allowing us to live modern-day enlightened lives in small and big ways.”
“To believe in coincidences, to believe in fate — it ties into the spiritual realm, to the idea that there is something universal out there, something looking out for you, watching over you, guiding you.”
“You can search throughout the entire universe for someone who is more deserving of your love than you are yourself, and that person is not to be found. You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
Final thoughts: If you're new to the spiritual world or just looking for a new hobby, I recommend this book. Pick up a copy here!
